Kill the carnivorous plants (1) to get Deku Nuts (2), then climb the ladder. Follow the path to find the Map in a chest (3). Continue following the edge of the cliff and go through the door.

You will fight a Deku Scrub for the first time. To defeat it, target it with Z and use your shield to reflect its seed back into its face (1). The Scrub flees. Catch it, and it will give you a very practical piece of advice (hold forward when jumping off a cliff to avoid getting hurt). Go to the next room and jump onto the platform to go across. Open the large chest to get the Fairy Slingshot (2). From now on, cutting plants can yield Deku Seeds for your slingshot. To exit the room, use the slingshot on the ladder hanging on the wall opposite the chest (3).

Return to the central room (in front of the chest containing the map) and kill the Skullwalltulas crawling on the roots (1). Then climb to the top of the room and go through the door (2), watching out for the giant Skulltulas falling from the ceiling.

Step on the switch (1) and hurry across the room to retrieve the Compass (2) from the chest opposite. On the way back, kill the Skulltulla guarding the small niche (3) which contains a Gold Skulltula.

Return to the large room. To do this, take a stick in your hand, light it using the lit torch, then head to the unlit torch to light it (1). As you can see on the map, you have visited all the rooms above the ground floor; you must now reach the basement. To do this, kill one of the giant Skulltulas (wait for them to turn around and hit them) then jump into the void, aiming for the spider web in the center of the room. If you take the jump just to the left of the door, don't press forward all the way after jumping (release the direction instead).

Once at the bottom, exit the water by going onto the platform at the north of the room. Step on the switch (1) to light the torch next to the chest (2) then ignite one of your sticks. Jump into the water where you can stand and jump onto the other platform (3) to go burn the spider web at the end of the room. Before going through the door, check that you haven't forgotten to kill the 2 Gold Skulltulas (one on the roots going back to the ground floor and the other above the gate).

Kill the Deku Scrub which will give you an essential clue to reach the boss (1, remember the order well) then shoot the eye (2) with your slingshot to open the door. In this water-filled room, you will need to activate a switch underwater (3) to lower the water level. Then climb back in front of the door to jump onto the platform crossing the room and reach the other side. Kill the large Skulltula and pull the large block to climb up and open the door.

Light all the torches using your stick to proceed to the next room. In this one, ignite your stick to burn the spider web to the East which protects a small passage you must take.

You find yourself back in the 1st room of the basement. First push the block (1) to go light your stick and quickly return (2) to hit the web on the floor (3) which will take you into the depths of the tree. Get out of the water and kill the Scrubs in the order indicated by the Scrub defeated earlier (on your left, Scrub 1, on your right, Scrub 3). The last Scrub flees. Catch it, and it will open the door for you and give you the boss's weak point. Go through the door to face it. It's called Gohma.

Gohma is a giant insectoid monster. To start the fight, look up and meet its gaze. Then, target it with Z and shoot with your slingshot into its eye. When Gohma collapses, hit it as much as possible (I recommend the attack where you target with Z then press A; it's the most powerful). Gohma can also climb to the ceiling; try to keep it "targeted" and shoot it with the slingshot so it falls back down. Once on the ground, repeat the first instructions. If you miss it when it's on the ceiling, Gohma lays eggs that you must destroy quickly if you don't want to be attacked by larvae.

Gohma is defeated; you can take the heart container it left behind and then exit by going into the circle of light.

As you leave, the tree tells you a story, the creation of Hyrule by Din, goddess of Power, Nayru, goddess of Wisdom, and Farore, goddess of Courage. He also confesses that he is going to die, poisoned by the mysterious man from the desert. The Spiritual Stone of the Forest (Kokiri Emerald) he gives you is one of the reasons for this evil act. You must save Hyrule, prevent the man from the desert from getting his hands on the stones and the Triforce, and Navi will help you in your Quest. The fate of Hyrule is in your hands.
