Mortal Kombat 2 on SNES: the complete guide with fatalities and special moves for all characters

Mortal Kombat 2 is the sequel to Mortal Kombat 1, first released in arcades then on Super Nintendo. This sequel adds a great deal to the previous version and established itself as the reference for digitized fighting games. This "digit" style is one of the reasons for the series' success. Mortal Kombat stands apart from its main competitor of the era (Street Fighter 2) in two ways: digitized fighters (real actors performed all the game's movements) and the "finish him" mechanic. At the end of each fight, you can if you wish finish off your opponent, for example by ripping off their head. This aspect grew in importance throughout the series — MK 2 includes on average 2 fatalities per character plus a "friendship" (a friendly gesture toward your opponent) and a "babality" (you turn your opponent into a baby), while the first MK had only one "fatality" per character. Beyond that, the game has 12 characters sharing roughly the same basic moves and 3–4 specific special attacks. Personally I find the game far behind SF2: the colors are rather dull, the number of moves is low and the gameplay is not top notch (even if the characters respond well). From forum discussions, I noticed that Mortal Kombat was much more appreciated in Canada where it was often even preferred over SF2. It remains a matter of taste, but in any case, MortalKombat 2 remains one of the very best fighting games on the SNES.
